About Us
Joan Oncken, M.Ed., M.A., LMFC and Gerald Oncken, Ph.D., a husband and wife team, have provided counseling services together since 1988. Our focus is on providing counseling, workshops, and group therapy for individuals and couples.
We help our clients open new possibilities for rich, fulfilling lives and relationships. Our approaches are eclectic and designed to meet the specific needs of each client.
We are on a number of health insurance provider panels and also offer a limited sliding-scale fee for persons in financial need.
We provide a safe and supportive environment for learning, healing, and growth. This includes respect for the dignity, integrity, and privacy of all associates, clients, and students who work with us.

Gerald Oncken has a doctorate in Psychology, and his career has included teaching, consulting, organizational development, coaching, and counseling.
Gerald brings humor, insight, and clarity to his work. His clients experience hope and possibilities for creating new, better experiences for themselves and for people around them.
Joan Oncken is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a Nationally Certified Parent Trainer Professional. She has worked in the counseling and human development fields for over thirty years
She has a caring and respectful approach to clients and goes the extra mile to insure that people are receiving the best she has to offer.
Joan is a member and past president of the Seattle Counselors' Association. She is also a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
Gerald is a member of the American Psychological Association, American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and Toastmasters International.
Joan and Gerald have been married since 1992 and have navigated the challenging world of step-families. They currently enjoy two delightful grandsons, a granddaughter and a large, loving family.
